Water Mill Kuchelmiss
North of Krakow am See, is the museum 'Wassermühle Kuchelmiß' situated.
Here, you have the opportunity to see a mill in its original state, it is well preserved. In addition, there is an exhibition about mills in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
A short mill history
1296, the mill in Serrahn is being mentioned in a certificate
1558, first mentioning of the water mill Kuchelmiß
1596, estate Kuchelmiß and the mill are being pledged to the Earl Hahn of Basedow. The mill with meadows, fields and adjacent building is being leased to different millers.
1751, the mill is being reconstructed after a storm and the present dwelling added on.
1836, an oil pounder for the extraction of animal feed and lamp oil is being operated in the mill
1866, the undershot water wheel is being replaced by a Francis-turbine
1873, the oil mill is uneconomical and abandoned
1896, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha buys the Kuchelmißer estate and the mill
1912, miller master Mevius takes over the mill as the last tenant
1945, the community Kuchelmiß becomes the owner of the Kuchelmißer mill
1954, Mevius' daughter runs as the first female miller master the mill
1972, the production of compound feed for animals is being discontinued. The mill is being shut down
1980, the mill becomes a technical monument
